Aglionby Ross CARSON 1780-1850

Biographical Note

Born in Dumfriesshire, he studied classics at the university of Edinburgh. He was rector at Dumfries Grammar School between 1801 and 1806, before teaching classics at Edinburgh High School. In 1820 he became rector of the latter, and in 1821 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Books

His library was sold at auction by Mr T. Chapman at Edinburgh on Monday, January 20, 1868, comprising of lots 616-1041, mostly of books printed in the nineteenth-century. A copy of the catalogue survives at the NLS (X.44.g.8(3)).
