Biographical Note

Son of John Hayward, of Tandridge Hall, Surrey. Admitted at the Inner Temple 1635, knighted 1641. He was a courtier for a while in the 1640s; after the Restoration, he was MP for Bletchingley in 1661, and held various administrative offices. He was a candidate for the position of Garter King of Arms in 1677, but Sir William Dugdale was appointed.
