William GOCKMAN d.1558

Biographical Note

BA St John's College, Cambridge 1540, MA 1547, fellow there from 1548, BD 1554. At the time of his death he was vicar of Halstow, Kent.

Gockman's probate inventory includes ca.200 books, valued at £8 0s 7d (from a total estate valued at just under £22). The books are mostly in Latin, with some Greek and Hebrew, with a predominance of theology alongside some philosophy, classics, and other topics. He bequeathed some specific books to academic colleagues, while directing that most of them should be sold. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.99 (see full citation below).
