Biographical Note

First son of Sir William Bennet, 1st Bt., of Grubbet, Roxburgh. M.A. Edinburgh? 1685. Served as master of horse, 1689-1694; major in Lord Jedburgh’s troop of horse before 1697; muster master general, 1704–8; commissioner of excise, 1714–25; ensign Royal Company of Archers, 1715.

He was a member of the Scottish Parliament for Roxburghshire, 1693-1707, and of the English Parliament, 1707-1708.
