====Biographical Note====
The eldest son of [[family::James Baird]] (1676-1720), 6th Laird, and [[family::Katherine Hay]], daughter of the 2nd Earl of Kinnoul.
He was obliged to sell the [[location::Auchmedden, Aberdeenshire|Auchmedden]] estate in 1750 as a result of his Jacobinism and profligate behaviour.

Used an engraved bookplate (Franks 1211): Baird, William, of Auchmedden, Esqr.

The extent and disposition of his library is not known.
