Thomas HELPERBY d.1555

Biographical Note

BA Gonville Hall, Cambridge 1536, MA 1537 and fellow of Michaelhouse, BD 1546; he was later one of the founding fellows of Trinity College. from ca.1547. He was the incumbent of Longstanton from 1548.

Books

Helperby's probate inventory includes ca.110 books, valued at £8 8s (from a total estate valued at nearly £54). The books are mostly in Latin, with a little Greek, and are primarily theological, with some other subjects included. In his will, he included bequests of some specific books to academic colleagues, and directed that the remainder be distributed among his pupils and other students.
