Robert WHITLIE d.1583

Biographical Note

Does not seem to have been matriculated, but at the time of his death Whitlie was chapel clerk of Trinity.

Books

Whitlie's probate inventory includes over 180 books, valued at £2 1s 11d (from a total estate valued at £14 7s 4d). The books are mostly in Latin and English, with some Greek and Hebrew. They mostly cover theology and rhetoric, with some grammar. Leedham-Green suggests that a large number of the books (listed as "50 english bookes" and "80 Lattin bookes") may have been given to Whitlie as deposits against debts. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.149 (see full citation below).
