====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Thomas Jocelyn]] of [[location::Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire]]. He was apprenticed to an attorney named [[associates::Salkeld]] before being admitted to [[organisations::Gray's Inn]] in 1709. He became a [[occupation::barrister]] in [[location::Ireland]] in 1719 and an Irish [[occupation::MP]] in 1725. He was appointed [[occupation::solicitor-general]] for Ireland in 1727 and [[occupation::Lord Chancellor]] of Ireland in 1739. He became Baron Newport (in the peerage of Ireland) in 1743, and Viscount Jocelyn in 1755.

====Books====
Jocelyn used an engraved armorial bookplate, made before 1743 when he became a peer (Franks 16505); the extent of his library is not known.
