====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Richard Lovelace]], [[occupation::deputy]] to [[crossreference::Charles Howard]], 2nd Baron Howard. Matriculated at [[education::Merton College, Oxford]] 1584, but did not graduate. He served on military campaigns with the [[associates::Earl of Essex]] in the 1590s and was knighted in 1599. [[occupation::MP]] for [[location::Berkshire]] and other constituencies between 1601 and 1621, created Baron Lovelace in 1627; he acquired considerable wealth through marriage.

Lovelace [[bequest::gave]] 27 books to create a parish library at [[location::Hurley, Berkshire]] (all now lost).
