Biographical Note

Son of John Gilden, lord of the manor of Burton-by-Lincoln. BA Christ's College, Cambridge 1549, fellow of Jesus College from ca.1550.

Books

Gilden's probate inventory includes ca.40 books, valued at 17s 2d (from a total estate valued at just over £6). The books are mostly in Latin, with a little Hebrew and Greek, and include theology, grammar and medicine. He left his books "unto sir Wyllan to bestow as he shall thynke best".
