====Biographical Note====
Son of [[family::Richard Baylie]] (d.1587) of [[location::Lichfield, Staffordshire]], and [[family::Anne Quiney]] of [[location::Stratford upon Avon]], [[location::Warwickshire]]. BA [[education::St John’s College, Oxford]] 1601; BA 1605, MA 1609, BD 1616. He was elected [[occupation::vice-president]] of [[organisations::St John's College, Oxford|St John’s]] 1616-1617 and 1621-22. [[occupation::President]] of the [[organisations::St John's College, Oxford|college]] in 1633-1648 and 1660-1667 and [[occupation::dean|Dean]] of [[organisations::Salisbury Cathedral|Salisbury]] in 1635. He was well-acquainted with [[crossreference::William Laud 1573-1645|William Laud]] and became his sole executor following his execution in 1645. He was ejected from his presidency at [[organisations::St John's College|St John’s]] in 1648 and ‘lived quietly in [[location::Oxford]] thereafter’ (''ODNB''). He married [[family::Elizabeth Baylie|Elizabeth]] (d.1668), daughter of [[associates::William Robinson]] ([[associates::William Laud|Laud]]’s half-brother and Archdeacon of Nottinghamsire), in 1636; they had at least three sons and three daughters.

When Baylie compounded for delinquency in 1647 his books (with other goods) were valued at [[monetary value::£100]]. The subsequent exrent and disposition of his library is not known.
