Philip STANHOPE, 2nd Earl of Chesterfield 1633-1713

Biographical Note

Son of Sir John Stanhope (d.1609). Knighted in 1605; purchased the baroncy of Shelford in 1616.

He married Catherine, (d.1636) daughter of Francis, Lord Hastings in 1605 and after her death married Anne (d.1667), widow of Sir Humphrey Ferrers and daughter of Sir John Pakington of Westwood, Worcestershire. Politician and courtier.
