Born at [[place of birth::Veryan, Cornwall]].  BA [[education::Pembroke College, Cambridge]] 1657, MA 1660, DD 1678; [[occupation::fellow|Fellow]] of the [[organisations::Pembroke College, Cambridge|College]] 1658, elected [[occupation::Master]] 1677.  [[occupation::Vice-Chancellor]] of the [[organisations::University of Cambridge|University]], 1681.  [[occupation::vicar|Vicar]] of [[location::Barton, Cambridgeshire]] 1662, of [[occupation::vicar|Vicar]] of [[location::Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire|Swaffham Bulbeck]] 1663; [[occupation::rector|Rector]] of [[location::Framlingham, Suffolk]] 1678, of [[occupation::rector|Rector]] of [[location::Feltwell, Norfolk]] 1664.  [[occupation::chaplain|Chaplain]] to [[crossreference::Matthew Wren]], [[occupation::bishop|Bishop]] of [[diocese::Ely]] (d.1667).  [[organisations::Pembroke College, Cambridge|Pembroke College library]] was redeveloped during his Mastership, by converting the old chapel; the work was paid for primarily by private subscription.

Coga’s “entire library” was sold by [[auction::auction]] by [[auctioneer::Edward Millington]] in [[location of auction::Cambridge]], [[date of auction::27 November 1694]].  The catalogue refers to the addition of a number of other books to the sale, which can be assumed to be a discrete appendix to the main section listing Coga’s books.  This contains 1554 items, predominantly 17th century books, and mostly from the second half of the century.  The lots are divided between [[language::Latin]] [[subject::theology]] (374), [[language::Latin]] miscellaneous, including [[subject::geography]], [[subject::history]], [[subject::lexicography]] and [[subject::numismatics]] (the categories mentioned in the catalogue) (796), [[language::English]] [[subject::theology|divinity]] (200) and [[language::English]] miscellaneous (184).
