Books

The library of "the late Mr. Matthew Banes, of Fen-Ditton in Cambridgeshire" was sold by retail sale in Cambridge, beginning 12 February 1728. Bates has not been identified, and is not found in university lists - he may have been a nonconformist? The sale catalogue contains 1128 lots, plus a small group of "books unbound", divided into theological, historical, legal and miscellaneous folios (mostly in Latin and English) (187 lots), English octavos (371), French octavos (61), Greek and Latin octavos (278), and duodecimos/smaller formats (63).
