====Biographical Note====
Born at [[place of birth::Aklington Park, Warkworth, Northumberland]], son of [[family::Lawrence Rushworth]] (d.[[date of death::1640;1642|1640/42]]). Educated at [[education::University of Oxford|Oxford]] but did not matriculate.  [[occupation::Solicitor]] at [[location::Berwick-upon-Tweed]] from 1638 and [[occupation::MP]] 1657, 1659, 1660, 1679, and 1681. Entered [[organisations::Lincoln’s Inn]] in 1640 and became [[occupation::clerk assistant]] at the [[organisations::House of Commons]]. Appointed [[occupation::cursitor of chancery]] for [[location::Yorkshire]] and [[location::Westmorland]] in 1643 and was called to the bar in 1647. During the civil war, he was frequently employed as a [[occupation::messenger]] and from 1641 he began collecting Civil War pamphlets and newsbooks, which he used in producing his [[book title::''Historical Collections'']].

Library partly [[auction::auctioned]] in [[location of auction::London]], [[date of auction::8.12.1690]], [[date of auction::5.1.1691]], with a further part sold by the [[location::London]] [[occupation::bookseller]] [[associates::J. Woodman]] in [[date of sale::1722]].
