Biographical Note

Son of William Lovelace of Hurst, Berkshire; he inherited the Lovelace barony from his cousin John Lovelace in 1693. He was commissioned as an officer in the Life Guards in 1699, and was appointed Governor of New York in 1708, where he died shortly afterwards.

Books

Lovelace used an engraved armorial bookplate dated 1704 (Franks *87); the extent and disposition of his library is not known.
