An engraved armorial bookplate "Johannes Ellis D.D.", Franks 9786, is tentatively identified as the man of this name who was the son of John Ellis of Wilsford, Wiltshire, clergyman, who graduated BA from Brasenose College, Oxford in 1709 (MA 1712, DD 1730), but the name is a common one and the identification needs to be further verified.
