John AGATE ca.1677-1720

Biographical Note

Son of Richard Agate, farmer of Surrey. Educated at Sackville College, Sussex, BA Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge 1699/1700, MA 1706, DD 1720. Rector of Stawley, Somerset 1701-1720.

Books

Agate's books were sold by retail sale in London from 18 May 1721 along with those of two unnamed gentlemen. The sale was described by advertisements in the Daily Courant and other newspapers as 'a Valuable Collection of English, Latin, and French History, Divinity, Architecture, &c'.
