John ABERNETHIE fl.1691-1722

Biographical Note

John Abernethie of Mayen, Banffshire, was the son of Alexander Abernethie of Auchincloich and Isobell Hackat, heiress of Mayen. He fought a lawsuit against his stepfather, Alexander Forbes of Blacktoun, which was heard on 12 February 1713, and was mentioned as still living in 1722.

Books

He used a letterpress book label reading “John Abernethie of Mayen, | August 1. 1691.” An example is in the National Library of Scotland Henderson Smith Collection, J.H.S.1(3.6). The extent and disposition of his library are not known.
