James HARCOURT 1680-1739

Biographical Note

Son of Godfrey Harcourt, of Dring Park, Breconshire. BA Jesus College, Oxford 1701, MA and fellow 1704, BD 1711, DD 1714. Rector of Tellisford, Somerset 1709, vicar of All Saints, Bristol and canon of Bristol Cathedral 1711. A couple of his sermons were published 1721-35.

Books

Harcourt used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 13668/9). The extent of his library is not known; it was presumably inherited by his son John, b.1717/18, who matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford in 1736, who also used a bookplate (Franks 13670).
