James CARNEGIE, 5th Earl of Southesk, 1692-1730

Biographical Note

Succeeded his father, David Carnegie, the 5th Earl of Southesk, in 1700. He supported the restoration of James Stuart in 1715 and fought at the Battle of Sheriffmuir as colonel of the Angus Horse. Following his attainture for high treason and forfeit of his titles and estates, he fled to France and remained there until his death.
