Hugh HAY fl.1705-1735

Biographical Note

Hugh Hay of Park was the only son of John Hay of Brightmoney and Park, Nairnshire, and in right of his father was admitted a burgess of Aberdeen on 21 March 1705. He and his wife Isobel Brodie had a signature of the lands of Newtoun of Park, Nairnshire, 29 November 1726, and he served as provost of Aberdeen, 1734-35.

Books

He left no testament or other records of his library, but his copy of John Rushworth’s Historical Collections (London, 1680), with its characteristic bookplate, is now at Aberdeen University Library BCL B5141-42.

Characteristic Markings

He used a Jacobean armorial bookplate (Franks 14210).
