Biographical Note

Son of Edmund Betts of Wortham, Suffolk. LL.B. Clare College, Cambridge 1742; rector of Bressingham, Norfolk 1748, and JP for Norfolk and Suffolk.

Books

Betts used an engraved armorial bookplate, "of Wortham in Suffolk" (Franks 2434); the extent of his library is not known. Some of his papers, including a record of his dealings as a magistrate, survive in the Betts family papers in the Suffolk Record Office, at Ipswich. He is known to have belonged to book clubs at Wortham and Diss around 1750.
