Charlotte GERARD ca.1652-1727

Biographical Note

Daughter of Charles Gerard, 1st earl of Macclesfield and his wife Jeanne de Civelle. Married Thomas Mainwaring, and after he died marries Sir Thomas Orby. She seems to have married Edward Manby after this, but accounts vary.

Books

Gerard's household goods, including her library (likely inherited after the death of her husband, Thomas Orby, was sold by auction from her dwelling house in Hanover Street, London on 10 May 1727. The auction was advertised in the Daily Post and the Daily Journal. Advertisements, which describe the sale as being of the goods of "the Right Hon, The Lady Charlot Manby", also describe the inclusion of manuscripts from India and China, which belonged to Thomas' brother, Charles.
