Campbell DALRYMPLE 1725-1767
Biographical Note
Seventh son of Hew Dalrymple, Lord Drummore (scion of an eminent Scottish legal family), and Anne Horne, and was born 27 August 1725. He pursued a military career, ultimately serving as governor of Guadeloupe in 1760, and was the author of A Military Essay, Containing Reflections on the Raising, Arming, Cloathing, and Discipline of the British Infantry and Cavalry (London, 1761). He married Margaret Douglas, daughter of General John Douglas, and died 21 April 1767.
Books
His will mentions “household goods”, but does not explicitly name books. He used a Chippendale armorial bookplate (Franks 7862); the extent and disposition of his library is not known.
