====Biographical Note====
Younger son of [[family::Charles Fitzroy]], 2nd Duke of Grafton, and a great-grandson of Charles II; after education at [[education::Eton College]] he was set up for a naval career and was a [[occupation::lieutenant]] by 1734, and a [[occupation::captain]] in 1736. He commanded the HMS Eltham 1736-39, then HMS Orford, and was involved in various military naval activity in and around the Mediterranean. In 1734 he married [[family::Elizabeth Cosby|Elizabeth]], daughter of [[crossreference::William Cosby]], [[occupation::Governor]] of [[location::New York]], but was soon thereafter in trouble for unfaithfulness. He was made [[occupation::MP]] for [[location::Thetford]] 1739 and died in [[location::Jamaica]] two years later.

Fitzroy used an engraved armorial bookplate, made sometime after his marriage; the extent and disposition of his library is not known.
