Augustine VINCENT ca.1584-1626

Biographical Note

Of Windsor, son of William Vincent (d.1618). Made Rouge Rose pursuivant-extraordinary in the College of Arms in 1616. A friend of William Camden, he defended him from the criticism made by Ralph Brooke in his Discoverie of certaine errours published in ... Britannia (1599]). He was made Windsor Herald in 1624.

Books

He accumulated heraldic and genealogical manuscripts, and manuscripts relating to Northamptonshire. His material was made use of by William Dugdale, John Weever and William Burton. His books and manuscripts passed to his son John (d.1671), who added to them, before bequeathing the manuscripts to Ralph Sheldon, who in turn left them to the College of Arms in 1684 (ca.260 Vincent manuscripts remain there today).
