Arthur WATTS d.1688

Biographical Note

Arthur Watts, yeoman of Sidcot, Somerset, was an uncle (or great-uncle) of Mary Clarke (d.1705), executrix of his will. Mary was a letter writer, wife of the MP Edward Clarke, and a relative and correspondent of John Locke.

Books

Watts' will, made in July 1671, proved March 1688, contained specific instructions regarding a number of his books: 'I doe give unto Mrs Mary Buckland Doctor Donnes Sermons and Dr Featleyes Sermons, I doe give unto Mrs Frances Buckland Burtons Melancholly, I doe give unto Mrs Mary Walter Sir Phillipp Sidneys Arcadia, I do give to my friend Mr John Buckland Plutarch's Lives'. The four recipients were related to Arthur Watts and Mary Clarke through through the latter's maternal family.
