Anthony MAYHEW d.1559

Biographical Note

Of Lincolnshire. BA Queens' College, Cambridge 1547, fellow of Pembroke College 1547, MA 1549. He fled to the continent in 1556, and matriculated at the University of Basle early in 1559, though he seems then to have returned to Cambridge and his fellowship at Pembroke, shortly before his death.

Books

Mayhew's probate inventory includes ca.85 books, valued at just over £2 (from a total estate valued at just over £28). The books are mostly in Latin, with some Greek and French, with a predominance of theology alongside some law, classics, and other topics. The full inventory is edited as Leedham-Green no.108 (see full citation below). Examples: Trinity Hall, Cambridge H*.7.48.
