John GENNYS 1717/8-1766
Biographical Note
Son of Charles Gennys of Plymouth, gentleman. BA Exeter College, Oxford 1727, MA 1730, BMed 1734. His subsequent career has not been traced but it seems likely that he was a physician in Devon; in his will, he does not refer to medicine but describes himself as "of Plymouth" and clearly had an extensive estate of property and money to bequeath around his family.
Books
Gennys used an engraved armorial bookplate, made when he was at Exeter College (Franks 11783). The extent of his library is not known; there is no mention of books in his will, which would have passed (with the rest of his goods and chattels) to his eldest son John.
