Isaac GILLING ca.1662-1725

Biographical Note

Son of Richard Gilling, a baker of Stogumber, Somersetshire. He attended a nonconformist academy in Taunton and in 1687 was ordained in the presbyterian church in Lyme Regis, Dorset. The various roles he occupied included Curate of Barrington and Seavington St. Mary in Somerset; usher in a Latin school in Axminster, Devonshire; pastor of the presbyterian congregations in Silverton, Devonshire and Newton Abbot. He also kept a boarding school at Newton Abbot, for which he found himself in trouble because he did so without a licence. He was an active member of the Exeter Assembly, and also practised as a physician, being admitted as an Extra-Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians in 1724.

Books

Gilling's books were sold by auction in Exeter on 5 September 1726. The auction was advertised in Brice's Weekly Journal.
