Daniel BELLAMY 1717-1788

Biographical Note

Born in London, son of Daniel Bellamy, lawyer. He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1736, but was not awarded an MA degree until 1759. He began publishing popular devotional works around 1740 and after becoming ordained he became vicar of St Stephen's, St Albans in 1749. He held other ecclesiastical positions before becoming chaplain of Kew and Petersham, where he remained for the rest of his life. His Family preacher (1776) was one of his more popular publications; he also wrote some poetry.

Books

Bellamy used at least 3 versions of an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 2152-4), including some giving his place of residence as Trinity College. The extent of his library is not known. His brief will, in which he left all his property to his wife, has no mention of books.
