Christopher WANDESFORD or WANDESFORDE 2nd Viscount Castlecomer ca.1684-1719
Biographical Note
Son of Christopher Wandesford (1656-1707), who was the grandson of Sir Christopher Wandesford (1592-1640). Wandesford was Member of Irish Parliament for St Canice in 1707 before succeeding to the peerage upon the death of his father later the same year. Appointed an Irish privy councillor in 1710, then decided to pursue a political career in England. He sat as Member of Parliament for Morpeth 1710-1713 and Ripon 1715 until his death. In 1714 he was made a privy councillor by King George I, and he was made governor of Kilkenny the following year.
Books
Wandesford's library was sold by retail sale in London beginning 11 January 1721. Advertisements in the Daily Courantand other newspapers describe the sale as 'consisting of a very valuable Collection of Books in most Languages and Faculties, especially of the English and French Historians, Divinity, Husbandry, Trade, Travels, Law Common, Civil, and Canon, and Classicks of the best Editions, and by the most celebrated Printers...'.
