Biographical Note

Likely the son of James Sibbald, the rector of Clothall, Hertfordshire. Admitted scholar at Peterhouse College, Cambridge 1696, BA 1699/1700, fellow 1702 and MA 1703.Rector of Clothall 1708-1712 and of Bishop's Hatfield, Hertfordshire 1712-1719.

Books

Sibbald's books were sold, alongside those of an unnamed gentleman "known for his great learning" by retail sale in London beginning 24 March 1724. Advertisements for the sale were placed in the "Daily Journal" and "Daily Courant", and they describe the books as being "Antient and Modern", covering subjects including "History General and Natural, Architecture, Medals, Lives, Husbandry, Trade, Voyages, Divinity, Physick, Dictionaries, Law, Poetry, Plays, Novels, Parliament and Church affairs and the history and antiquity of English counties. There are texts in Greek, Latin, English, Italian, French and Spanish, and the books are noted as being "well bound, many being gilt on the Back and Letter'd, and several large paper".
