Thomas PETER d.1618
Biographical Note
A native of Devon. BA Exeter College, Oxford 1597, MA 1601. Rector of St Mawgan, Cornwall from 1603 until his death.
Books
Numerous books at Lanhydrock House, Cornwall previously belonged to Peter. Most of them have pre-1600 imprints, suggesting that most of his book-buying (some new, some second-hand) took place during his time in Oxford. His books may have passed to Hannibal Gamon, his successor in the rectory. Examples: Lanhydrock House C.14.7.
Characteristic Markings
Peter's books are regularly inscribed "Tho. Petri liber", or similar, sometimes with a price and date added; Lanhydrock C.10.2 has the initials T.P. stamped on the front cover.
