Brook TAYLOR 1685-1731
Biographical Note
Born in Edmonton, son of John Taylor, merchant and owner of the estate of Bifrons, near Patrixbourne, Kent; he was a great music enthusiast and Brook became proficient in musical and artistic skills. LLB St John's College, Cambridge 1709, LLD 1714; he was admitted an advocate at the Court of Arches but seems not to have practised law. He developed interests in mathematics and physics, and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1712 (secretary, 1715); he published significant and influential mathematical works.
Books
In his brief will, Taylor left all his goods to be divided between his children. His library was sold by retail sale, along with the books of Joseph Hall, in London beginning 22 February 1732.
