Philip MONSON d.1730

Biographical Note

Known only from the details of his life which can be gleaned from his will: he was of Millbank, Westminster, had a wife Sarah and a son Philip (probably a minor when the will was made in 1721), and referred to his estate as being "of so small a value". A lengthy devotional preamble to the will reveals that he was brought up a Roman Catholic, but converted to the Church of England.

Books

Monson's library was auctioned in London, beginning 2 December 1730. No catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Journal as "consisting of history, divinity, plays, poetry, etc". His will has no mention of books, but left all his property to his widow.
