Robert HEDRINGTON fl.1577

Biographical Note

In Richard Foster's words, "Hedrington has proved a frustratingly elusive character and it has been impossible to discover any biographical information about him". It has been surmised that his ownership of a book by the Genevan exile (but previously Bishop of Winchester) John Ponet is an indication of reformist sympathies.

Books

Hedrington is so far known only from the existence of two 15th-century manuscripts and 7 printed books all carrying an ink stamp, "Robert Hedrington his Bookes. 1577". The printed books are mostly English imprints of the late 15th century, including ones from the presses of Caxton and Wynkyn de Worde. The variety of their subject matter suggests that Hedrington may have owned these primarily for their antiquarian interest.
