Sir William LEE, 4th baronet 1726-1799

One of the two states of Lee's bookplate (Franks 17915), from a copy of F. Hotoman, Quaestionum, 1573, Princeton University Library 7627.478.21

Biographical Note

Son of Sir Thomas Lee of Hartwell, Buckinghamshire, 3rd baronet, from whom he inherited the title and family estates in 1749.

Books

Lee used an engraved armorial bookplate, which exists in two variant states (Franks 17915-6). The extent of his library is not known; in his will, most of his property was left in trust to his son William, who inherited the title as 5th baronet. He also directed that his second son George, who became the 6th and last baronet, should have all his books in his dressing room, "not specified in the catalogue as belonging to my library".
