Biographical Note
Son of Thomas Sprat, Bishop of Rochester, and Hellen Wolseley. Matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, 1687; B.A. 1701; M.A. 1704. Ordained in 1704, becoming Archdeacon and Prebendary of Rochester Cathedral until his death, and also Vicar of Boxley, Kent from 1705 and Rector of Stone, Kent from 1707. Admitted to the Middle Temple in 1700, and elected FRS in 1711. Married Frances —.

He had an engraved armorial bookplate: Franks 27757, *513 (another impression). Examples: Royal Collection RCIN 1055401-2 (in King George III’s library). His will makes no reference to books.
