Moise PUJOLAS d.1729

Biographical Note

Born at Uzes, France; little is known of his early life but he came to London as a Huguenot refugee and became a naturalised British citizen in 1696. He was secretary to the General Assembly of French Churches in London, tutor to Winwood Montagu, son of Ralph Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu, and in 1728 became Governor of the London Hospital for Poor French Protestants. He also had scientific interests, and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1695.

Books

Pujolas's library, together with his household effects and those of Sir Scipio Hill, was auctioned in London, beginning 20 January 1730. No catalogue survives, but the sale was advertised in the Daily Post and Daily Journal as "consisting of books of architecture of all the best authors, histories, voyages, plays, polite literature, &c and his collection of prints."
