George THORPE 1638-1719

Biographical Note

Born in London, son of George Thorpe, cook. BA Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge 1657, MA 1660, BD 1667, DD 1678; fellow of Emmanuel College 1663-67. Vicar of Babraham, Cambridgeshire 1667, chaplain to William Sancroft, rector of Bishopsbourne, Kent 1679, prebendary of Canterbury 1680. One of his sermons was published in 1677.

Thorpe's library was sold by retail sale, beginning 8 May 1729, along with that of Robert Yard.
