Matthew GREGORY b.1714/5
Biographical Note
Son of John Gregory of Jamaica, a member of a slave-owning family there, managing extensive plantations. BA Christ Church, Oxford 1732, after which no details of his career have been traced; it seems likely that he returned to Jamaica, but died before his father (ca.1764) and uncle (also Matthew, d.1779).
Books
Gregory used an engraved armorial bookplate, made when he was at Oxford (Franks 12764); the extent and disposition of his library is not known.
