Utrick FETHERSTONHAUGH or FETHERSTON 1718-1788

Biographical Note

Younger son of Matthew Fetherstonhaugh of London, but also mayor of Newcastle. BA Trinity College, Oxford 1739, MA St John's College, Cambridge 1747. Rector of Oxted, Surrey 1746, of Stanford-le-Hope, Essex 1747, of Harting, Sussex 1757. He acted as tutor to his nephew, Sir Harry Fetherstonhaugh on a Grand Tour of Europe. A portrait of Fetherstonhaugh, dressed as Apollo, hangs at Uppark House, Sussex.

Books

Fetherstonhaugh used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 10440/10441), using the name Fetherston. The extent and disposition of his library are not known.
