Biographical Note

Morland was the nephew of Sir Samuel Morland. He was a fellow of the Royal Society from 1704.

Books

In his will Morland bequeathed to his son Samuel Morland his "manuscript copy of a designed dictionary English and Latin and also my manuscript copy of an etymologium novum of the Latin tongue". His library was sold, alongside that of an unnamed gentleman, by auction in Covent Garden from 7 November 1727. Advertisements in the Daily Post describe the "very curious collection of books in all parts of polite learning; chiefly in the history and antiquities of Great Britain and Ireland... Also a large variety of books of medals, architecture, perspective, sculpture, painting, coins, inscriptions, musick, [[subject::geography|voyages] &c. together with most of the classicks...".
