Thomas TAYLOUR or TAYLOR 1st Earl of Bective 1725-1795
Biographical Note
Son of Sir Thomas Taylor, 2nd bart, MP for Kells in the Irish Parliament, from whom he inherited the baronetcy in 1757. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin before entering the Irish House of Commons also, in 1747; in 1760 he was raised to the Irish peerage as Baron Headfort. In 1762 he became Viscount Headfort, and in 1766 the 1st Earl of Bective (all in the Irish peerage). He was a member of the Irish Privy Council from 1785.
Books
Taylour used an engraved armorial bookplate, made in the late 1750s when he was a baronet, but not yet a peer (Franks 29031). The extent of his library is not known; his estates and title were inherited by his eldest son Thomas, who became 1st Marquess of Headfort.
