Sir Peter OSBORNE 1584/5-1653
Biographical Note
Of Chicksands Priory, Bedfordshire, governor of Guernsey, MP for Corfe Castle, Dorset, 1623–4 and 1625. He spent most of his time in Guernsey, away from his residence, wife and children in Chicksands. Although Guernsey sided with parliament during the Civil War, Osborne held Castle Cornet there for the king until 1646. He retreated to exile in St Malo.
Books
Although his fortunes were largely ruined after the Civil War, he directed in his will that his library should remain at Chicksands as a family heirloom.
