Christopher MONTAGU ca.1655-1735
Biographical Note
Younger son of George Montagu of Horton, Northamptonshire, and grandson of Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester. He was admitted at the Middle Temple in 1682 and was MP for Northampton 1695-1702. His family connections also brought him a number of lucrative government posts with the excise commission, and elsewhere.
Books
Montagu used an engraved armorial bookplate (Franks 20888). The extent of his library is not known; in his will, he bequeathed all his personal estate not otherwise disposed of (which would have included books) to his nephew John Lawton.
