Biographical Note

Baptised in York, son of Laurence Rawdon (1568?-1626), a merchant. After his father's death in 1626 he was adopted by his uncle, Sir Marmaduke Rawdon, a London wine merchant. He managed his uncle's affairs in Tenerife from 1631 and lived in the Canary Islands until his return to England in 1656, after which he lived with his cousin of the same name at Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

Books

He compiled various manuscripts collections, including a geneological memoir of the Rawdon family and a history of cathedrals, and spent time “in his closet reading or writing, being naturally inclined to study”.
