John COLVILLE 8th Lord Colville of Culross, 1725-1811

Biographical Note

Son of John Colville, 6th Lord Colville of Culross (1690-1741), he succeeded his elder brother to the title in 1770. He was an army officer, serving at the battle of Fontenoy, the siege of Ostend and the battle of Culloden. After his retirement in 1763 he was appointed Inspector-General of the Outposts in Scotland.
